Saya no Uta

Post by MidbossVyers on Mon Jun 29, 2009 10:24 am

I haven't seen a visual novel forum on this site yet, so I'm just posting any visual novel discussions here. If a visual novel section does exist, please feel free to move this there. Anyway, one of my favorite visual novels is Saya no Uta. It is one of two video games (and one anime) that deeply influence me. As probably mentioned in my intro thread, the other game is, of course, Disgaea, and the anime is Elfen Lied. (Can you find the similarities between the three?) Anyway, for those who haven't played Saya no Uta, it's a very good visual novel, but you kinda need a strong mind and stomach for many of the scenes, guro and H await. A summary of Wikipedia can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saya_no_uta I contributed to it. Where it says "an eccentric", I changed it from "a crazy" because I thought the word, crazy, was too judgmental. There are, of course, spoilers, but if you scroll down to the bottom, you'll find the link to the official Japanese sight. It's spoiler-free there, especially if you can't read Japanese. You can even play a hide-and-seek minigame with Saya on the site. Bottom line, if you liked the Earth Conqueror ending in Disgaea 1, and if you have a similar mindset to Mao from Disgaea 3, you'll probably love this game. In fact, I bet Mao would be interested if he knew about it because this game contains love, eccentric (not mad, mind you) scientists, and modifications. Anyway, I digress and am slowly getting off track, so if someone else wants to talk, go ahead (I wonder how many people will actually know this visual novel, as well).

http://vndb.org/v97

story
Fuminori Sakisaka has a traffic accident which kills his parents and
leaves him heavily injured. When he has a brain surgery to save his
life, his perception of the world changes: everything he sees becomes
blood and guts, people's looks and voices seem like monsters, and food
that normally appeals to him tastes disgusting.

As he
contemplates suicide in the hospital, Fuminori meets a beautiful girl
among the flesh-covered walls. She introduces herself as Saya, and is
apparently looking for her father. Fuminori does not want to be
separated from Saya, and asks her to live with him. She agrees.

very short compared with other VN's of its calibur but still a very good one, if slightly disturbing (would you still have a relationship with Saya once you knew what she really is?)

anyone looking for something like this (cute, disturbing, bloody, good story) I would storgly surggest Umineko no Naku Koro ni http://vndb.org/v24

I like her for both her looks AND her personality. Even if her outer appearance looks... Well, you know. Her personality is still cute. For example, in the Normal Ending, when she readjusts Fuminori's brain, I still wanted to hug her. Well, maybe not as much as before, but still... Anyway, has this game ever affected any hospital visits, negatively or positively?

Nope. Loved the Visual Novel. If only there was an OVA based off it...

There's also a Saya MUGEN character around as well.

Have you played the hide-and-seek "minigame" on the official website? There's really no actual "point" to it, but it's fun and cute if you like Saya. Also, I know about Saya's entrance into MUGEN, but isn't there also supposed to an AI patch or something, as well?

I just noticed that there are a LOT of Saya no Uta references in characters and stages that aren't from Saya no Uta. For example, Wraith's Sion's Last Arc shows Oumi's eye (from the scene where she's eaten) as a part of the TATARI terror graphics. In terms of stages, Millenium Castle: Nightmare sometimes shows the "gut-scape" of Fuminori's vision and Oumi's eye (sure is popular, that scene), again, as well. Something about putting Saya no Uta scenes into Melty Blood characters and stages sure is attractive (maybe because Gen Urobuchi, a Nitro+ (company that made Saya no Uta) writer, wrote the Type-Moon light novel, Fate/Zero).
