Hyperdimension Neptunia

Post by MidbossVyers on Sun Aug 05, 2012 8:02 am

Has anyone ever played any of the Agarest War games? The... graphics look nice, but how is the actual game play? If it's good, should I start a particular game or should I just get whichever is the latest one?

Funny story. I'm actually playing through the first one myself. First game has the most generations at 5 as opposed to 2-3 in Zero and 2.

Game plays more or less like a cross between dating sim and tactical strategy. Personally, I'd play them in this order:

Agarest
Agarest Zero (the prequel)
Agarest 2 (The sequel)

Are all the stories connected? In other words, will there be references to one game from another or do you need to play one game to understand the other? Is there some kind of bundle pack to get them all?

Agarest Zero takes place 1000 years before Agarest and I can't tell you much about Agarest 2 since I haven't played it. All I know is that it's a sequel taking place an unspecified amount of time later.

Since I've only played the first, I have no idea whether prior knowledge is needed before playing Zero or 2.

Is the voicing JP only or is there English?

Don't know about Zero or 2, but Agarest is JP voice acting only (at least in the EU version).

I don't see how that should stop you from enjoying the game.

Well, right now, along with Blazblue, I'm playing Warriors Orochi 3, which is also Japanese voices with English text. Now, unless it's a complete H-game, I really prefer English voices (because I don't think most English voice actors would do hentai, unless they are "specialists"). And yes, there are M-rated JRPGs with English voices, such as Ar Tonelico Qoga, which I naturally have.

Be prepared to hear a lot of groaning then. Especially when girls do trivial things like running, stretching and carrying books.

Funny story. Playing through Warriors Orochi 3 too...

Groaning in Agarest, you mean? The reason I was drawn in was because I saw this dark energy bondage, and... Well, you were saying about WO3?

Finally reached Gen 5. To get the true ending, your alignment needs to be Neutral. It's also required to recruit a certain character in the end too.

Because Agarest seems to be Japanese voices only, I met also consider the Neptunia series for my next RPG (for some reason, the new one is M-rated, while the first one was only T-rated, huh? Although it does seem to have English dub). Still, I won't make any orders until I complete all the arcade endings in BB, so feel free to convince me one way or another in the meantime.

*Plays Neptunia with Japanese dub*

How on earth do you know what games I'm playing at the moment? Are you a psychic or something?

Well, unlike Agarest, Neptunia does have English voices, correct? And for some reason, the rating increased from T to M within 1 game's time, correct? And how do I know? Are we not all sworn brothers and sisters bound by this wonderful site (among others) of Len's?

Neptunia does have an English dub. I'm just one of those people who play games with JP voices.

What next? You're gonna tell me you're gonna play Ar Tonellico Qoga.

? Didn't I already say that in a previous post? That's not mind reading; it's post reading. My favorite character is Soma. I tend to like that character type. Long black hair, white sundress with a ribbon, bare feet, flat chest, can probably kill me masterfully... Check my signature for another character.

Loved reading Saya no Uta.

Next you'll tell me to start playing the Atelier games right?

Actually, no, but I have played games where those characters have crossed over... So how many hits was that combo?

Managed a 300 hit combo in Agarest doing about 300,000 damage.

I meant the combo of things that we both played. Also, didn't I mention something about Soma being similar to Nanaya and White Len? ... Why are we talking abot this? I thought this was supposed to be about Agarest and/or Neptunia.

When playing through Agarest, I suggest trying to keep the bar in Neutral and trying to finish the game in under 500 turns. That ensures you get a certain character and that you get the true ending.

Re: Hyperdimension Neptunia

Basically, I have to do the same thing that I did for the Warrior Orochi series, when I wanted to get Warriors Orochi 2. Basically, buy Warriors Orochi 1 cheaply, just play through to get caught up on 2. So I need to do that either buy Neptunia 1 OR the first two Agarest Wars (1 and 0) cheaply and play through them to get caught up on Neptunia 2 OR Agarest 2. I'm leaning toward Neptunia because of English voices, but are you planning on convincing me otherwise?

If the option to play something in JP voices is there. I take it.

Agarest has more strategy to it than Neptunia.

Neptunia 2 is on the PSN, but Neptunia 1 is not, huh? I'll have to try to get elsewhere. All right. Amazon is it new in both standard and premium edition... Is the premium edition worth the triple digit number?
